The type of thing that an EPC For You assessor looks at includes the heating system, the lighting system, how energy is kept in the property, the construction of the property itself, and its size. Features such as loft insulation, water heaters including hot water tanks and domestic boilers, radiators, and windows are all items that will need to be assessed when producing an accurate survey.
Unlike a building survey, which may involve invasive procedures, the EPC survey report is based entirely on observation. The time taken for an EPC survey depends on the type, size, and function of a property, but EPC For You will be able to give you an estimate once an appointment is booked.

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) survey is a mandatory assessment that provides information about the energy efficiency of a property in the United Kingdom. The assessment rates the property’s energy performance on a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and provides recommendations for improving its energy efficiency.
The EPC survey is a legal requirement for all residential and commercial properties in the UK that are being sold, rented, or constructed. The survey is conducted by a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor or Non-Domestic Energy Assessor, who will visit the property and assess its energy usage and efficiency.
During the survey, the assessor will inspect the property’s construction, heating, ventilation, and lighting systems, as well as any renewable energy sources, insulation, and glazing. They will also take into account the age and size of the property, as well as its location, orientation, and local weather conditions.
Once the survey is complete, the assessor will provide the property owner or landlord with an EPC certificate that contains the energy rating, recommendations for improving energy efficiency, and estimated energy costs. The certificate is valid for ten years, and the property owner or landlord must make it available to prospective tenants or buyers.
The purpose of the EPC survey is to raise awareness about the energy efficiency of properties in the UK and encourage property owners and landlords to make improvements that can reduce energy consumption, save money on energy bills, and lower carbon emissions.
Why do I need an energy survey?
At Raw Green Energy Group we believe in taking a ‘fabric first’ approach to improving the energy performance of a building. This means that property owners should seek to maximise the energy efficiency of their building before considering any renewable energy solutions.
It makes no sense to begin installing solar panels, heat pumps, or battery storage until all efforts have been made to minimise heat loss and energy waste.
And in order to identify the most cost-effective opportunities for improving the energy efficiency of a property it is vital to first gain a good understanding of the current heat and power demands.
For this reason, a RGEG energy survey should be the first phase of any planned building improvements, underpinning every stage of your future energy performance strategy.
Survey prices are listed in the table below. All prices shown are exclusive of VAT.
If a property is significantly larger than we had anticipated we reserve the right to charge for our time accordingly.
The cost of your energy survey
The cost of a RGEG energy survey is dependent on the size of a property.
For domestic properties we base this on the number of bedrooms. For commercial premises this is based on the size of the property in square metres.
As a not-for-profit co-operative, we have kept the cost of our energy survey as low as possible and we expect our recommendations to deliver significant long-term savings on your energy bills. When you consider that a home survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) costs between £750 and £1,615 for a 2-bedroom property, we believe that our survey offers excellent value for money.
It is worth remembering that a RGEG energy survey will identify any technologies which may be ineffective or inappropriate for your property. This could save you a great deal of money (not to mention time and stress) by avoiding the installation of technologies that will not deliver the impact you may have expected.
For domestic customers who decide to work with RGEG to install your improvements we can absorb the cost of your energy survey into our project management fee.
What is included with a RGEG energy survey?
A detailed analysis of heat loss and energy waste
Our bespoke energy survey will provide a thorough and detailed examination of every aspect involved with heating and powering your property.
Our Energy Saving Team will conduct an on-site survey to capture all relevant data. We will also analyse your historic energy bills to gain an understanding of your energy usage and to identify times of peak demand.
We will produce a detailed report recommending the most cost-effective solutions to remedy areas of significant heat loss and energy waste.
Recommendations and future costs
Our report will measure and compare the anticipated reduction in demand that we would expect from installing different types of energy saving measures and other green energy solutions.
This enables you to draw conclusions about which combination of technologies will best meet the heat and power requirements of your property, as well as being able to consider upfront cost and future savings projections to help you make the best decisions.
Accessing finance for your energy improvements
Our expertise and familiarity with national energy policy can identify any financial support available to reduce the cost of your energy improvements. For example, during previous projects we have helped our customers to access such subsidy schemes as the Feed-In-Tariff and the Renewable Heat Incentive. Under the current subsidy regime this could include the Boiler Upgrade Scheme or the Local Area Delivery scheme.
Where a client has solar power installed, we can help them to take advantage of tariff offers from energy suppliers who agree to purchase any excess renewable electricity produced from their solar panels.
Through our partnership with Wave Community Bank Raw Green Energy Group can help our clients access low-cost loans to assist with the upfront cost of energy improvement measures
What happens after the energy assessment?
Once our Energy Saving Team have concluded their on-site survey they will send you a report within 14 days.
The report will include details of where you are wasting heat and power and recommend various solutions for improving energy performance.
Once you have selected the energy saving improvements (and energy generating technologies) that you would like, Raw Green Energy Group can source competitive installer quotes and project manage the entire installation on your behalf
